Our Clinic has opened a day surgery centre, a subdivision of the Clinic, designed to carry out the surgery that is completed in one day and does not require the patient to be hospitalised overnight. The Clinic implements minimally invasive approaches using modern materials and medicine, which in many cases enables doctors to provide medical services in a day patient unit and monitor patients for a shorter period (one day). Treatment of the patients begins and ends in the Centre for Outpatient Surgery, where they are referred by the doctors of the Centre or doctors of other departments of the Pirogov Clinic of High Medical Technologies at St Petersburg University.
2. During the second consultation (if necessary), after evaluating the results of the examination and making the final diagnosis, the doctor:
The Centre for Outpatient Surgery carries out the following surgical procedures:
- Vascular surgery
- General surgery
- Colorectal surgery
Admission to the Centre for Outpatient Surgery:
1. During the initial consultation, the doctor makes a preliminary diagnosis and gives recommendations for the examination.2. During the second consultation (if necessary), after evaluating the results of the examination and making the final diagnosis, the doctor:
- evaluates the possibility of performing the operation in the day surgery unit;
- informs the patient about the operation, their life style at home after the operation, possible complications, and the need for further monitoring in the Centre for Outpatient Surgery;
- determines the date of the operation and preparation for it;
- explains how they can contact the physician, if necessary, after being discharged home.
IMPORTANT
You are strongly advised to come on the day of the operation accompanied by a relative or close acquaintance who would help to get home after the operation. Also, you should ask someone to help at home for the next day and make sure that the doctor or the receptionist of the Pirogov Clinic of High Medical Technologies can contact you on the phone. If round-the-clock medical supervision is required, you can be transferred from the Centre for Outpatient Surgery to the appropriate department of the Clinic.
The Centre consists of two units:
- The outpatient unit comprises rooms for receiving patients by doctors: vascular surgeons; general surgeons; and colorectal surgeons.
- The day surgery unit comprises a medical treatment room, two procedure rooms, a day patient ward and a recovery room.
The Centre for Outpatient Surgery is designed for:
- temporary (from two to six hours) monitoring of operated patients in the Centre;
- conservative treatment of patients with surgical pathology that do not require round-the-clock monitoring (obliterating diseases of the vessels of the lower extremities, diabetic foot, anaemia and other pathologies), primarily intravenous therapy;
- providing the recommended conservative treatment after discharge from the Clinic.
