Saint Petersburg State University Hospital
Saint Petersburg State University Hospital is a unique medical institution in Russia. On the one hand, the Clinic is both a modern, in-demand and high-performance hospital, where more than 20 thousand surgical interventions in various fields are performed annually, including cardiosurgical, oncological, endocrine, orthopedic, urological, gynecological surgeries with an average length of stay in hospital of less than 4 days.
These results can be achieved thanks to the highly qualified specialists and the use of the most advanced today’s low-trauma technologies, ensuring a minimum of complications. On the other hand, the Clinic is an SPSU subdivision, designed to carry out biomedical research in consort with scientists from the fundamental departments of one of the country's leading classical universities. The purpose of this work is to implement the results of advanced research into clinical practice which is the development of new treatment technologies, equipment, implants, drugs, diagnostic and rehabilitation methods. This encourages our employees to engage in scientific research actively, study international practices, and keep up with the recent trends in their field of knowledge.
All of the above, as well as our constant desire to improve the safety level, advance service and prevent the patients from encountering any bureaucratic problems, allows the Clinic to provide a high-level quality and the most advanced medical care.
Sincerely, Alexander Gubin – Director of the Saint Petersburg State University Hospital
Our history
The hospital complex on the Fontanka Embankment, near the Staro-Kalinkin Bridge, traces its history to 1860-1861. It was during these years that the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Community of Sisters of Mercy opened a hospital for women on the Community premises in this location. The hospital contained 16 inpatient beds, an outpatient clinic and a pharmacy for low-income patients.
